The best stories are constructed, no less than a house is constructed. They require a plan that fits the purpose, the right tools and raw materials, an assembly blueprint, structural integrity, and final paint and polish.
We’ll work through the six essential steps in the building process. We’ll put special emphasis on how to expand your range of sources, from people in position of authority or power to the private people with sensitive stories. And we’ll explore “cinematic reporting,” which helps you gather relevant narrative information that adds creativity to news, explanatory and investigative stories.
If you’re just starting your career, this session will provide a foundation to build stories that are solid and creative. If you’re an experienced veteran, you’ll gain tools and skills to push your stories to higher and higher levels.
