Paul Goossens (Belgium) studied economics at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven from 1964-1968. After graduating, he became a freelance journalist for the weekly Vrijdag. In 1973, he became an economics reporter at the newspaper De Standaard, and was the editor in chief of De Morgen from 1973 to 1991. This was an era of change and controversy, for the paper was making a transition from the tanked socialist newspaper De Volksgazet into a newspaper for the Flemish left wing intellectuals. Since 1991 he is a freelancer again, and news Belgian agency Belga’s correspondent on Europe.
